{"id":315,"date":"2015-06-20T11:12:09","date_gmt":"2015-06-20T18:12:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.codyscomiccorner.com\/?p=315"},"modified":"2015-06-23T12:21:21","modified_gmt":"2015-06-23T19:21:21","slug":"moon-knight-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.codyscomiccorner.com\/?p=315","title":{"rendered":"Moon Knight 16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At first read, this issue of Moon Knight was pretty thrilling, but the more I look at it, the more inexplicable it gets. \u00a0It opens with a bunch of terrorists in high-tech suits of jetpack-armor, flying around at night and kidnapping pedestrians off the streets of Manhattan apparently at random. \u00a0But then Moon Knight swoops in on a crazy crescent-moon-shaped drone ship, complete with automatic\u00a0weapons, missile swarms, crescent-shaped chaff, <em>and<\/em>\u00a0flying mini-drones, capable of hostage rescue or <em>exploding on command<\/em>. \u00a0All voice-controlled, no less!\u00a0 We even get a wonderful scene of Moon Knight&#8217;s moon-craft\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/rC3aAnz.png\" target=\"_blank\">hiding in<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/HvhotmS.png\" target=\"_blank\">plain sight<\/a>. \u00a0So he decimates the jetpack people, and it&#8217;s all totally rad.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, once\u00a0he follows the lone jetpack terrorist to (where else but) an abandoned off-shore oil rig, he starts speaking\u00a0in more than just clipped drone commands, and that&#8217;s when it gets kinda silly. \u00a0He finds a bunch of disheveled hostages chained up around a skeletonized corpse in the remains of primitive jetpack armor. \u00a0One of the hostages says that when &#8220;the flying men took us they told us&#8230; the raptor goddess would come for us.&#8221; \u00a0At this point I would mention that, to my recollection, neither Moon Knight nor Khonshu have made any reference to a &#8220;raptor goddess&#8221; in the course of this series.<\/p>\n<p>Moon Knight: &#8220;You&#8217;re safe now.&#8221;<br \/>\nSome guy: &#8220;How can you be sure? \u00a0Do&#8230; do you now the raptor goddess?&#8221;<br \/>\nMoon Knight: &#8220;I know the type. \u00a0But the raptor <em>isn&#8217;t <\/em>coming for you. \u00a0She flew too close to the moon. \u00a0And the moon must also <em>feed<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Haha! \u00a0Because the moon is renowned for its hunger in mythology!\u00a0 Delightful. \u00a0But then the\u00a0crazy gun-wielding jetpack\u00a0guy shows up, yammers about how they&#8217;re supposed to be <em>friends<\/em> and that the raptor goddess was going to make them <em>angels<\/em> and <em>promises were made<\/em>; he ends up shooting &#8220;the idol&#8221; and gets all distraught, giving Moon Knight the opportunity to punch &#8216;im real good. \u00a0I did like his line, &#8220;Don&#8217;t be so worried. \u00a0You can&#8217;t kill a god so easily. \u00a0If you could, everyone would be doing it. \u00a0Believe me.&#8221; \u00a0I liked that. \u00a0But then Moon Knight\u00a0goes <em>on<\/em> to say, &#8220;But you can&#8217;t get faith and desperation mixed up, either. \u00a0Do that&#8230; and you&#8217;re only sacrificing yourself.&#8221; \u00a0And I was like, I don&#8217;t really know what you&#8217;re talking about. \u00a0And in the closing scene, when one of the hostages calls Moon Knight\u00a0an angel, he replies, &#8220;No. \u00a0I&#8217;m like them&#8230; the ones who brought you here. \u00a0They weren&#8217;t angels. \u00a0Neither am I. \u00a0An angel doesn&#8217;t need to <em>scream<\/em>&#8230; for his god to take note.&#8221;\u00a0 Haha, what?<\/p>\n<p>So this issue was serviceable, and the aerial battle was big fun, but as usual, it\u00a0makes me just want to go back and re-read the first six Warren Ellis issues in which Moon Knight was just a well-dressed lunatic investigating weird crimes by way of brutal beatings, instead of making cryptic observations\u00a0about the nature of faith after blowing\u00a0up nutjobs in jetpack armor who were kidnapping passersby to appease their&#8230; goddess?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At first read, this issue of Moon Knight was pretty thrilling, but the more I look at it, the more inexplicable it gets. \u00a0It opens with a bunch of terrorists in high-tech suits of jetpack-armor, flying around at night and kidnapping pedestrians off the streets of Manhattan apparently at random. \u00a0But then Moon Knight swoops [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-315","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-comic_round-up"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.codyscomiccorner.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/315","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.codyscomiccorner.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.codyscomiccorner.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.codyscomiccorner.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.codyscomiccorner.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=315"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"http:\/\/www.codyscomiccorner.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/315\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":363,"href":"http:\/\/www.codyscomiccorner.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/315\/revisions\/363"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.codyscomiccorner.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=315"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.codyscomiccorner.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=315"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.codyscomiccorner.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=315"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
